Lace Trimmed Infant Bereavement Gown Patterns --

Directions for All Sizes

For a parent holding a dying infant, sorrow is overwhelming.  Small acts of love and kindness are very much appreciated.  Providing age-appropriate clothing is one way to acknowledge and honor the life of the infant.

Volunteers who sew these gowns send a caring message to the bereaved parents.

 Directions

     1.        Sew one, two, or three pieces of lace trim down front of gown.

2.        Sew shoulder seams.  Press seams open.

3.        Stay stitch neck edge on ¼” seam allowance; clip curves.

4.        Turn neck seam allowance under and press.

5.        Sew lace trim to neck edge.

6.        Turn sleeve seam allowance under and press.

7.        Sew lace trim to both sleeve edges.

8.        Stay stitch underarm edge on ¼” seam allowance; clip curves.  Press.

9.        Sew side and underarm seams and press.

10.    Turn bottom seam allowance under and press.

11.    Sew lace trim to bottom edge.

12.     Turn ¼” under on back edge and press.  Turn ¼” under again and press to finish both back edges.  (The back of the gown is open.)  Top stitch back edge.

13.   Sew ribbon to each side of neck edge for ties, or glue small Velcro closures to back edges.

Gathered Front Variation

Add 1/2'’ – 1” to center front fold line.  Gather front neck edge to create fullness in gown front.
